Choir Director: Anita Comba

Anita has been with the choir since 2010. For the first year she stunned us with her skill as an accompanist and piano performer, but when she was appointed Music Director in July 2011, she really spoiled us with her amazing choral leadership. It was a new challenge for her to try to bring out the best in such a large group of variably talented adults. Somehow she has managed to maintain a balance between concentration and hard work, and lightheartedness and enjoyment, during our rehearsals and performances. She approaches the task whole-heartedly, unfailingly patient and encouraging to us, and each season we get compliments that we are getting better and better. Thank you, Anita!

Awards are nothing new to Anita, as she has received many over the years. Recently, in December 2016, she was awarded the Joyce O. McGuire Award for outstanding, long-term service as a choral accompanist.  Since 2003 she has been resident pianist for Pandora’s Vox and Espiritu Vocal Ensemble and her choral arrangements can be heard on their CDs. She has worked with Victoria Conservatory of Music’s Opera Studio, UVic Opera Nova, Vancouver Opera Touring Ensemble, Vancouver Opera Children’s Chorus, Vancouver Opera Chorus, Vancouver Film School, Lions Gate Sinfonia and Langley Community Music School in various roles as vocal coach, music director, répétiteur, accompanist, and arranger for choral and instrumental repertoire. We are so privileged that she has brought her myriad of talents to share with the Langley Community Chorus.

Beyond her role as supporter and director for choral groups, Anita is a gifted solo performer.  Studying piano performance for many years with the late Dr. Robin Wood in Victoria, she earned, amongst other honours, a Bachelor of Music with Distinction (Piano Performance) from the University of Victoria. She has been heard on CBC radio accompanying various instrumentalists and singers and has been a featured soloist with Victoria Symphony Orchestra, Victoria Civic Orchestra and Prince George Symphony Orchestra.

Occasionally she has treated our audiences to solo piano performances and duets with our accompanist, Donna – always a highlight of the program.
